Chapter One:
How Blizzard Came Into My Life

Go To: Tails of Blizzard, Chapter Two

Little did I know when I first met him he would win over the whole household and especially me heart.

I first met him in early spring. He was a big guy, kind of clumsy but very friendly. And where did I meet hiim? In Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. He was living with my daughter and son-in-law and their two children. You see Eddie my grandson was promised a dog when he reached seven years of age. Eddie did not forget his mother's promise.

His mother adopted Blizzard from the local Humane Society. He has white & black markings and is part Border Collie and part Austrian Sheperd.

Everyone was happy with Blizzard. He was affectionate, loyal and let it be known when he needed to answer nature's call. Tom didn't mind walking him.

Each time I spoke to my daughter on the phone, I heard only praise about the newest member of the family. But then an incident occurred: Blizzard bared his teeth and snarled at one of Eddie's friends.

Needless to say my daughter was very upset. She grew to care for this dog very much. This friendly adoped dog showed another side to his personality. Why he got so provoked noone knows. He was so docile most of the time and seemed to love everybody. Especially his buddy Eddie -- however now there was a problem. Could Bizzard be trusted with other children? Eddie has many friends. How could this incident which could turn into a major disaster be resolved? A family discussion took place.

Mom and Dad decided Blizzard would have to go back to the Humane Society. When Eddie was told about the decision his heart was broken. After all, this was his very first dog. That's when Grandma Dorothy stepped in.

First of all, he was a seventy-five pound dog and Grandma knew she would not be able to walk him on a leash. He would pull too hard. Fortunately Uncle Robert and Uncle Norbert live in the same house as Grandma Dorothy. A plan was devised. Blizzard could come and live at Grandma's house. She would feed him and care for him as long as the 'boys' would take him outside.

Everyday Robert jogs to the park with Blizzard in the morning. They both get exercise. Norbert takes Blizzard for a walk to the park in the evening. Here he gets to socialize with other dogs. A new gate was put up in the back yard. Here Blizzard plays with Grandma's three cats. The pond in the yard is another point of interest for him. He likes to watch the goldfish surface.

Blizzard enjoys his new home and is helpful too. He barks if he hears strangers around the house, allowing Grandma to be safe. He enjoys Grandma's cooking and all of the company and attention he recieves. So, this story can honestly end with "And everyone lived happily every after."
