Hayward City Beach
In the city of Hayward, Wisconsin, behind 'the big fish' aka The Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame

Yahoo driving directions

Hayward City Beach has a very small, clean sandy beach area that is on Lake Hayward (the Namekagon River feeds into it). It has an adjacent park that is actually partially a peninsula into Lake Hayward. There are picnic tables and grills there. There is parking and washroom facilities. There is also a playset / swingset for kids. As you drive into the park/beach area, on the left side there is a new boat ramp that was just put in (summer of 2004). This gives you access to this class "A" musky lake and also great fishing in the Namekagon River.

We enjoyed this beach a lot since it was rarely crowded (even in peak season). It is very small however. *There are NO LIFEGUARDS there and swimming is at your own risk. Our kids don't swim well yet so we put life jackets on them. Please note that there can be a swifter current the deeper you go out (since it is actually part of a river). Be careful!

We tried fishing there but only caught a few bluegills. People usually cast off shore or pan fish. Tom saw a Gigantic snapping turtle head peek up out of the water too!

The park / peninsula. There are picnic tables,
small sandboxes and grills available for use.

an opening in the brush to fish from.
We caught many bluegills here.
Also, a nice place to cast from.
