There are well worn trails, through quiet vales, Cut deep in the mossy peat, They weave and wind, like paths of the blind; These trails of moccasined feet. Made long ago, by our one-time foe, Who lived in the great outdoor; He was wild and brave, and no man's slave, Craved freedom and nothing more. On the lakes and streams, that fill our dreams, They floated their birch canoe, They pitch their tent, 'neath the firmament-- And worshiped Manitou. They have had their day, and gone their way, Leaving us memories sweet, Indian lore, of the great outdoor, And "Trails of moccasined feet." |
