LULLABYS

There's no such thing as solitude,
To him who truly seeks--
To get attuned to Nature's mood--
The language that she speaks.

The streams that through the valleys flow,
Have songs as sweet as birds,
Which we must love, if we but know--
The meaning of their words.

The forests join the melody--
To which my Soul inclines,
The sweetest songs that come to me,
Are whispered by the pines.

Their songs are soothing, soft, and low,
Like voices from afar,
My homesick spirit longs to go--
Where such sweet singers are.

To lay me down beneath their shade,
And close my weary eyes,
And hear the songs for which I've prayed,
"These Woodland Lullabys."
