A History of Deming's Resort Bob and Ruth Peck came up to Minocqua for their honeymoon and loved it so much that they decided to stay. So, in 1940, Bob, Ruth and Jim Peck came up from Illinois to begin building their cabins. They went up to the cedar swamps of Michigan and brought back cedar logs for all of their cottages. Bob was a fishing guide and they operated the resort for 35 years. Bob and Ruth raised two children at the resort. Bob and Jim Peck built the Wildwood Golf Course and Jim Peck's Wildwood (petting zoo). The resort is on Fence Lake, part of a chain of ten lakes (The Lac Du Flambeau Chain) -- 5 miles long and 2-1/2 miles wide. Bob died of colon cancer at the age of 62. His wife Ruth still lives in Woodruff. After Bob's death realtors divided the resort up and sold it off. In 1978, Marie and Don Deming bought the last cabin that was for sale. Through the years they have gradually put the resort back together buy purchasing cabins and the main house as they became available. Marie and Don began to run the complete resort in 1980. In 2005 they sold off all of the cabins in order to retire. Currently they only rent out the main house on the resort. In 1994 they built a new house on the other end of the resort and that's where they reside today.
