Dad's Legacy

This is a place where Nostalgia reigns
A beautiful spot at the end of a lane
With a rustic cabin and a dock in the bay
Where the fourth generation now come to play

Back in the 40's Dad's dream was realized
When he built the sturdy structure we all now prize
The massive stone fireplace with three names in the hearth
Anchors heartstrings of family to the best place on earth

Of course things are different as they always will be
First lanterns and flashlights then gas lights to see
And now electricity has brought many a change
From ice box to fridge and from wood stove to range

From fried bread to toaster and microwave ease
Yet it is the same old cabin that continues to please
Radio and CDs now bring Chopin etudes
To add to the reverie of welcomed solitude

Gone are the 5-Horse motor and the old wooden boat
The Run-A-Bout is ancient so on the pontoon we now float
The wilderness lake is beautiful still
And swimming and fishing continue to thrill

Yes, Dad had a dream and his legacy lives on
Though there were so few years before he was gone
Now memories of reunions and pets buried in the yard
Make leaving each time seem very hard
