DODGE COUNTY LIFESPAN RESPITE NETWORK
Beaver Dam

Karla Jensen,
Program Director
dclrn@powerweb.net

DCLRN is a non-profit organization designed to work in collaboration with existing respite providers, to provide the community with a central point to access respite services, and to provide training to respite care providers and the community. In addition, our project has access to minimal funding for respite stipends.

FOR MORE INFORMATION:
www.powerweb.net/dclrn

Specialty:
Respite is a supportive service that brings relief to families from the stresses of daily, round-the-clock responsibilities of caring for someone with a disability. This break allows them the opportunity to rejuvenate themselves and provide the quality of care all of our loved ones deserve. You can't imagine the gratitude of these families. Some of these families would be ecstatic to have an hour to take a hot bath or walk the dog or read a book & spend a short time just for themselves and the rest of their family.

We serve children & adults with:

  • Developmental Disabilities
  • Chronic Illness
  • Special Health Care Needs
  • Emotional & Behavior Disorders
  • Physical Disabilities
  • Frail Elderly
  • Individuals with Alzheimer's
  • Individuals at risk of abuse or neglect

The value of respite care cannot be overstated. It reduces stress in families, prevents costly out-of-home placements, and prevents child / elder abuse and neglect. Respite care also serves to enhance the families coping abilities, increases caregiver physical and mental well being, and provides the caregiver with an opportunity for social activities and community involvement.

CAN'T WAIT COALITION
For information contact:
Sandie Polakowski (920) 324-0707 or Judy Billington (920) 485-2356.

The Dodge County People Can't Wait Coalition is part of a statewide movement that has the following Vision and Purpose:

Vision:
The People Can't Wait campaign was created by the Survival Coalition of Wisconsin Disability Groups, a statewide coalition of disability organizations. The Survival Coalition of Wisconsin Disability Coalitions will promote conditions in which all people with disabilities in Wisconsin:

  • Will receive the support they need
  • Can choose to live their lives as they wish
  • Will have the opportunity to be full participants in community life.

Purpose of  County People Can't
Wait Coalitions:

To be the local component of a solid, sustainable cross disability advocacy movement in which people with disabilities, family members, advocates and others who choose to work in support of people with disabilities become and remain a powerful voice for a system of public and community support consistent with the Survival Coalition Vision.

The Mission of the Dodge County People Can't Wait Coalition, working to support that Vision and Purpose will strengthen the voices of individuals, agencies and existing coalitions in Dodge County in support of people with disabilities by:

  • Building and maintaining stronger connections to one another through advocacy and support groups

  • Connecting with, informing, and supporting:

--People on waiting lists

--Families waiting for family support

--Families in need of home services

--Direct support staff

  • Informing state legislators representing Dodge County, other elected officials, and local media of the issues important to Dodge County citizens with disabilities, their families, and those who work in support of them

  • Initiating and participating in activities that will create and sustain the changes needed to enable all people with disabilities to be full members within Dodge County cities, towns and local communities.
